We went on an Autumn walk for National Tree Day. It was great fun and we got to see the different parts of the tree (the roots, bark, trunk, branches and twigs). We have been doing lots of Pre Phonics activities before we start our Jolly Phonics sounds. The following are activities that you could practice at home to develop your child's auditory (listening) skills.
'Odd One Out' listening activity. For example "cat, dog, cup- which one is the odd one out?". "Red, pizza, brown- which one is the odd one out?". Rhyming listening activity. For example "cat, bat, tree- which one does not rhyme?". "Ball, mat, hall- which one does not rhyme?". Nursery Rhymes that we know: Jack and Jill, Mary had a Little Lamb, Twinkle Twinkle, Baa Baa Black Sheep and the Grand Old Duke of York. Since September the class have been enjoying lots of fine motor activities. These activities strengthen the small muscles in their hands and fingers, works on hand eye coordination and helps with their precision. These activities also give them an opportunity to practice their pencil grip. Later in the year they will start to use their pencils. |
